The International Union Social and Economic Council, as a principal organ of the IU, is responsible for coordinating the economic, social and related work of several IU specialized agencies, their functional commissions, and some regional commissions. It also works closely with the International Monetary Fund and Bank.
The IUSEC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the International Union system. A number of non-governmental organizations are granted Consultative Status to the Council in order to participate in the work of the International Union. The 8 members of the IUSEC are elected by the World Assembly for 3 RP year terms, the President of the IUSEC being elected by the small- and mid-sized powers represented in IUSEC.
